Competitions

The Competitions

The WPS has internal competitions with judges from the Southern Counties Photographic Federation (SCPF) and also participates in inter-club competitions with other clubs in the SCPF region.

WPS internal competitions.

We run ten internal Monthly League Competitions each season, with judges from the SCPF.

There are five print competitions and five Projected Digital Image (known as PDI) competitions.

Internal competitions are each divided into three classes. Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced.

If you are not sure which class you should enter please discuss this with the Competition Secretary, or other committee members if he is not available.

The Society Competition Evening

This is a light-hearted evening of themed competitions without classes. The entries in each competition must comply with the relevant guidelines described in the first section Advice on Entering. The competitions are listed here.

The Mono Competition

A competition purely for monochrome prints, sometimes termed black and white but can in fact be any single colour plus white, i.e. not necessarily black with white.

This season we have incorporated the competition as part of the second round of the Print League.  The consequence is that there is now a “class” element to the competition, i.e. Beginners, Intermediates and Advanced.

The judge for the evening will award places per class as usual but will additionally choose an overall winner who will receive the FB Heathcote-Wride Old Symmetrical trophy.

He ran the Society’s annual exhibition for 31 years, and was co-founder of the Audio-Visual Group.

The theme for the George Walsh Trophy is Photo-journalism and Documentary photography.   Images should chronicle events, daily lives, social situations and public occasions.

Set of three pictures

The second competition of the night will be members’ sets of three images that have a linking theme, on a subject or concept of their own choice.

All questions to the Competition Secretary.
