Available from 2 September 2025, our annual Members’ Handbook is your pocket-sized guide to almost everything you need to know about the Society, its events and activities.

The handbook was as correct as possible when it went to press, but programme details may change. So members should always double check with the online calendar and/or the weekly membership email newsletter for programme changes.

Changes from the print version:

  • The judge for the Safari Competition on the President’s evening on 7 October has been confirmed as Alan Mills.
  • In a change from the pattern of meeting at the HRO on the second Tuesday of each month, in October 2025 we’ll meet at the HRO on the first Tuesday, 7 October. We’ll meet at the Tower on the second Tuesday, 14 October.

The handbook includes details of the committee members and other officials; what they do and how to contact them. There’s a glossary for newcomers and a very useful summary of your rights as a photographer, in case you are challenged while out and about with your camera.

Distribution

Every paid-up member should receive a copy of the printed handbook at the beginning of each season.

The handbook will be available for members to collect at the Tower at our Tuesday meetings early in the season.

To help us check that every member receives a copy, we’ll ask you to confirm collection on a Control Sheet.

We need to control costs and administration time, so please ask a friend to collect your copy if you don’t plan to attend and if this is practical for you.

If you are not able to attend physical meetings for the foreseeable future, please email the membership secretary and we’ll get a copy to you.
